Dick Bremer, Fox Sports North baseball commentator for the Minnesota Twins, fulfilled a life long dream yesterday by working on the grounds crew for Target Field for one day. He noted that it was great to spend a day in the shoes of another person.
Well, in the highly charged political arena in which we find ourselves, I think that’s our ultimate call – if you disagree with someone else, find a way to put yourself in their shoes for an hour, a day, a week, whatever it takes to feel how they feel, see how they see, think how they think. How do we do that? Ask questions, stop assuming, be generous, don’t be judgmental. In the video that follows there’s a great challenge:
Humankind. Be Both.
Gracious God – deliver me from the assumption that I’m right and someone else is wrong. Help me to be kind, to be open, to be honest, and to be bold. And if another person’s shoes are available to try on – give me the courage to walk a mile. Amen.
